Description

Back in 2015, I got in touch with Paris Smith in Chicago. After hearing the Thought Seeds album, I was intrigued by his unique sound and everything surrounding the release. Even then, the record was already selling for well over $300, and I remember how shocked Paris was to hear what his 80s album was going for. He recalled selling a few copies to diggers who showed up on his doorstep, but he had never checked the prices online. Now, ten years later, you can add another $150 if you want a copy of Thought Seeds.

To make a long story short: Paris had a lot more to offer. We ended up releasing all three of his albums—starting with his earliest work from the 70s, then Thought Seeds, and finally the 53rd St. Ghost record from his New Composers Ensemble.

Paris and I have stayed in touch over the years, exchanging emails and talking about everything from music to world politics. The truth is, Paris never stopped playing. He had set the vibes aside, but he kept practicing on his portable organ. He had privately released two CDs, Riff Moods Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. Eventually, we came up with the idea of doing a limited lathe-cut release featuring some of the strongest tracks from those sessions—something that record collectors and fans could hear. And here it is: limited to just 30 copies, featuring 6 tracks and liner notes written by Paris himself.Get high and get down” music, as he puts it.

The record comes in reused sleeves—each one hand-glued back into a flip sleeve, with printed graphics on both sides. The lathe cuts are engraved in real time and strictly limited to 30 copies. These are going to fly, and they’re only available here. So if you want one—you know what to do.
