Back in October last year, I received a request from Nicolas Streichenberg — the Swiss contemporary pianist known under the artist name Yes It’s Ananias (check out his Bandcamp page). He asked if we could do something together at the studio. Having met him earlier that summer, I was immediately up for anything we could throw ourselves into, and the exotic location of the Finnish countryside at Pelto Studio felt like the perfect catalyst for creativity.
“Let’s do an album.”
We had about five days for recording, mixing, and editing. Nicolas recorded twelve tracks with ease, laying down a melodic theme that reappears throughout the record, alongside minimalistic pieces that set the mood. There’s also moments of heavy drum and organ drama, fuzz guitar madness, and full-spectrum intensity.
Salainen Tiedosto translates to The Secret File. The artist name is presented as an immigration bureau, while the track titles and music follow the rabbit hole the protagonist — in what could easily be a movie soundtrack — finds himself falling into.
We’ve cut 50 lathe copies. The artist has taken 20 to help finance the trip, leaving 30 available. I’ve called the series Library Lathe, which might be the first of its kind: comes with an insert sheet, reused sleeves flipped inside out, and other small handmade details.
Ther are individually numbered and remember only one copy per customer.
